Turtle Power Meets the Power of a Wish Nova Scotia Chapter On March 21, Children's Wish Nova Scotia Chapter threw a surprise party to let wish child Cole know that he was going to Disney World. Cole adored the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so everything at his party was themed for the four green crime-fighters, from balloons right down to the cake. When the community heard about Cole’s story – and his love of all things Ninja – they pitched right in. Soon he had a Ninja Turtle costume and a stuffed Ninja Turtle to take on his wish trip. Rob Paulsen, who voiced Raphael on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles television show, called to talk to Cole and invited him to be the “fifth Turtle”. Sadly, Cole succumbed to his illness, a recurrent cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma, shortly after his wish trip. Cole had strength and bravery that defied his young age. He will forever be our favourite Ninja Turtle. The Nova Scotia Chapter also received help from some very generous community partners. Four times a year, Wilsons holds a ‘Wish Week’ during which they host various fundraising activities in their Atlantic Canada locations. They have raised more than $250,000 over the last three years, including $66,000 this year alone. In addition, the Major Bantam Hockey League of Nova Scotia chose to support Children’s Wish this year. Their Wear it For Wishes campaign, sponsored by Investors Group, raised $26,000. Granting Cole’s heartfelt wish was a true community effort. 14
