CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS A Special Princess Graces Inaugural Event Prince Edward Island Chapter Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, Prince Edward Island Chapter hosted their first-ever Princess and Superhero Party fundraising event this year. Months of planning, organizing details and fine-tuning the logistics went into this exciting day, with the help of Chapter staff, dedicated volunteers, and our key sponsors, Robin’s Donuts and Century 21 Colonial Realty. Plenty of talented individuals agreed to generously donate their time and expertise to create a magical afternoon at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel. But, the presence of one princess in particular made it extra special! Kara Bernard readily agreed to play the part of Sleeping Beauty and was very happy to be asked to take part in this event. Kara was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma just weeks after her 5th birthday in 2002. Her heartfelt wish was to travel to Disney World to meet Cinderella. Kara recalls this as a very magical time and a week with her family she will never forget. She has been involved with Children’s Wish ever since, attending various fundraisers and activities for the Foundation. Being asked to be a princess at the Prince Edward Island Chapter’s inaugural Princess and Superhero Party was a true honour for Kara and the staff were all very happy to have her there, playing such an important part in the day. Impact that lasts. 15 years ago Kara enjoyed her wish. Today she is a valued volunteer. 15
