Four year old Cache’s life has to date been one filled with uncertainty. Cache’s parents, Jeff and Martina, have been forced to accept the many unknowns surrounding their son’s undiagnosed life threatening illness that has left him with a series of medical and developmental complications, and an uncertain future.

So when his medical team referred Cache and family to the Children’s Wish Foundation, one thing was for certain – the family would be taking the trip of a lifetime. This past April, Cache, Martina and Jeff, and older sister Grace travelled to Maui, Hawaii for a week of rest and relaxation. The therapeutic effects of the trip were immediate. At home, Cache can often be found curled up in his special chair sucking on his fingers. Jeff shares that in Maui Cache was lulled to sleep nightly by the soothing sound of the ocean and had the most restful sleep he had ever seen. Cache even slept through the night which is a rarity. Little Cache was so relaxed that there was no need to suck his fingers and his body would lie entirely flat while sleeping, again a rare sight for Jeff and Martina to see their son so calm.

Spending a week in shorts, t-shirts and swim suits, the family enjoyed waking up every morning to head out snorkelling at nearby turtle town and sister Grace fell in love with the pool.  Due to unforeseen circumstances Cache’s wish trip was delayed but taking the trip a bit later allowed them to celebrate two very special occasions while away. During the trip, Cache celebrated his fourth birthday and Jeff and Martina celebrated their 11^th wedding anniversary, with Maui no doubt providing the perfect venue to celebrate.

“We have lots of moments from this trip” says Jeff, "and Grace made good use of the camera to make sure there are plenty of pictures capturing those once in a lifetime moments" from their trip. For one week, Cache and family enjoyed a magical experience in Maui and hopefully some of that magic has followed them home.
