In 2007 while living in a remote northern Alberta community, 4 year old Grant was diagnosed with Wilm's tumour. When asked what he wished for, he proposed a visit with his Grandfather in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, over the American Thanksgiving weekend. In addition to arranging for the get together, the Foundation was able to arrange for the family to take in a few attractions provided compliments of the city of Sevierille, Tennessee. Amongst other destinations, the family went to Dollywood, the Dixie Stampede, and Wonderworks museum.
The following excerpt was taken from a letter sent to the Foundation after Grant's trip:
How can we begin to thank you for the wonderful trip that you provided for us? It was even better than we dreamed it would be. I can't tell you how good it was to see Grant throw his head back and laugh with sheer joy over and over again! I think that the Comedy Barn was Grant's favourite show - he even got to go up on stage and help sing a song. He loved the Dixie Stampede too because he's crazy over horses. Most of the days ended with us in the hot tub on the deck of our mountain cabin, looking out over the valley and the beautiful city lights. Thank you so much for helping us make such wonderful memories.
Sincerely,
Raine, Judith, Amaris, Nikola & Grant.
