Ten-year-old Mya is a survivor. Born with multi cystic dysplastic kidney, Mya was subsequently diagnosed with hepatoblastoma (liver cancer) and has had both her Kidneys removed. She received a kidney transplant from her mother in 2008 and is now a post transplant diabetic. Despite these challenges, Mya remains a positive upbeat girl who recently had the opportunity to enjoy a care free week with her parents and brothers Jaxon and Tanner at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas.
In a recent letter, Mya’s mom Jennifer shared: “Words cannot even tell you the love and gratitude we feel towards Children's Wish Foundation for giving us the opportunity to have a trip like this without a financial burden to our family. With all the hospital visits we have and the endless blood work pokes, insulin needles, Diabetes and Nephrology clinic visits, pediatrician appointments, pharmacy trips, medications, endless learning, and all other events that Mya has to go through daily, this trip gave her the chance to drop it all. Getting insulin shots in the Bahamas and then running and jumping right into the pool seemed much more painless!
The trip was AMAZING! The weather was +30 everyday, the ocean was beautiful, the pools were warm and inviting, the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream daily was awesome. Definitely the highlight of our trip was doing the "Trainer for the day" at the Dolphin Cay. You can barely describe what looking into a gorgeous gentle dolphin’s eyes and kissing him on the nose feels like! It was a once in a lifetime moment that we will cherish for the rest of our lives! Again our heartfelt thank you for granting us a trip that wishes and dreams are made of!”
