A Letter of Thanks from Joshua's Mom.
The WISH trip was more amazing than anything we could have ever dreamed for! We have never experienced something so perfect! Hawaii is the most beautiful place we have ever seen. The Disney Resort was incredible. The rooms were gorgeous. They were side by side with an adjoining door. Both balconies viewed the ocean, which we did not expect. We were greeted with fresh flowers and Hawaiian nut leis. The staff treated our family with such love all week. Joshua and his siblings were given gifts several times.
Joshua was invited to join any teen event with his brother and sister even though he is only 10! The teen programs were amazing. The staff even took them kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. They took ukulele lessons and enjoyed special Hawaiian treats. While the kids were in their club, Steve and I walked the miles of paths along the ocean, swam, and snorkeled. The resort paid for two buffet meals for Joshua as their treat to him. They surprised our family one afternoon with chocolate covered strawberries and shaved ice. The staff all fell in love with Joshua. They posted his picture so that all staff knew Joshua by name throughout the resort. They cared and loved deeply, beyond anything we would have ever expected from strangers. We took craft lessons, took in Hawaiian shows, swam in the pools and lazy river and relaxed in the hot tub overlooking the ocean. We enjoyed all the Disney characters and their reaction to Joshua knowing he was a 'Wish' child.
The entire week was a perfect dream, we ate delicious food, laughed, met amazing people, rested, saw beauty that you cannot even put into words, and savoured every minute of each day.
As parents you never think that you will have to tell your child that he has cancer. You never imagine sitting in an oncology unit watching your son have chemotherapy. And it really does break your heart. I am sure you know this already from providing wishes to so many families, but your 'Wish' puts a beautiful rainbow at the end of the storm. Thank you 'Children's Wish' and God bless.
Love Paula, Steve, Brittany, Justin and Joshua
