Early one January morning Jenna woke up with a large lump on her belly. Worried, her parents took her to the emergency room. Numerous tests later doctors discovered a “monster tumour” growing off her coccyx.
At three-and-half months old Jenna became only the third child in the entire world to have this sort of illness – a Sacrogoccygeal Teratoma Tumour with enclosed Wilms Tumour.
To remove the tumours, Jenna went through a four-and-a-half hour surgery. Jenna and her family thought they were over the worst, until a routine check-up brought to light that her AFP levels were high and that she had developed cancer. This meant blood work every three months, x-rays and MRI’s. After four weekly treatments of chemotherapy Jenna is now three-and-a-half years into remission.
Jenna is truly excited about her wish to go to Walt Disney World and stay at the Give Kids the World Village. She frequently asks mom Krista to show her how many sleeps!
When asked what part of the wish she looks forward to, Jenna exclaims, “I’m so happy to go to Disney and meet princesses!”
Now feeling healthy again Jenna rather than spending time at hospitals spends a lot of her time going to the park or beach, playing on their trampoline and reading books. Enjoying the everyday activities that many of us take for granted.
