A group of Islanders living in Alberta still keep Prince Edward Island close to their hearts.

A group of native Islanders living in Alberta held their 5th Annual Children’s Wish Foundation Charity Golf Tournament on June 24th, at the Calgary Elks Lodge and Golf Club.  The PEI RumRunners Hockey Club was, once again, successful in exceeding their goals and in the one day event raised $84,000, to be shared between the Children’s Wish Foundation Prince Edward Island Chapter and the Alberta NWT Chapter.  All proceeds above the costs of running the golf tournament go directly to the charity.

“What an amazing accomplishment! The time, effort and commitment, of the PEI RumRunners, is truly remarkable” says Beth Corney Gauthier Chapter Director for Prince Edward Island.
“The Children’s Wish Foundation and all the Wish Families from both Prince Edward Island and Alberta who benefit from the work of the Foundation gratefully acknowledge the efforts of all participants and sponsors for the funds raised. A special thank you to the event’s major sponsor Strike Energy whose President, Stephen Smith, also just happens to be a native Islander.”

The RumRunners' group has been playing hockey together in Alberta for 32 years. Five years ago it was decided that their year end social would be changed into a golf tournament for the Childrens Wish Foundation.  The tournament day winds up with a dinner, auction and raffle for a special prize of an all inclusive trip to Prince Edward Island.
